S&G has been engaged by Incitec Pivot Limited to assess and remediate soil and groundwater contamination identified at the former pesticide manufacturing facility in Parafield Gardens, SA. The project presents unique challenges in the form of a highly heterogeneous multi-phase aquifer system, with contaminated groundwater measured in the upper three aquifers to a depth of over 30m.

Contaminants include pesticides, herbicides and solvents. Currently, a range of pilot trials are being undertaken to assess the most appropriate remediation technologies for both soil and groundwater contamination for the site. Soil remediation has been completed, whilst a full scale groundwater remediation plant is in operation.
