| Through their acquisition of BTR Nylex in the late 1990’s, Rocla acquired the liability of a large hexavalent chromium groundwater plume in Woodville SA. Rocla engaged S&G personnel to undertake a detailed analysis of the complex aquifer sequence that makes up the Quaternary aged Hindmarsh Clay Formation.
The contamination had penetrated through several units to be located at depth of greater than 50 metres below the ground surface level. Once the geology and hydrogeology was adequately understood, Rocla requested that a cost effective and innovative remediation solution be developed.
S&G was commissioned in 2002 to design, construct and operate a groundwater remediation system to remove the highest hexavalent chromium concentrations from the groundwater. To date, the system has been operating for over two years, has treated over ten million litres of water and removed over 2 tonnes of chromium from the groundwater system.
