Transport SA - Islington Railyards
Review of completed Conceptual Hydrogeological understanding and remediation

S&G was engaged by Transport SA to undertake a review of the conceptual hydrogeological understanding and remediation works undertaken by a large environmental consulting firm in South Australia at the former railyards site following five years of groundwater assessment and remediation.

The site, located in the same geological and hydrogeological sequence as the Parafield Gardens site, required a strong conceptual understanding to ensure all stakeholders, including regulators, were satisfied with the proposed management approach. Transport SA were uncertain of the appropriateness of the works completed to date and requested that S&G provide a clear and strategic way forward for the management of the residual metals and solvent groundwater contamination issues.

As part of the project, S&G was required to review over thirty groundwater reports to develop a clear understanding of the current environmental status of the groundwater and the requirement for further remedial activities. S&G will subsequently assist Transport SA in negotiations with SA EPA on a process to expedite the completion of remediation works at the site.
